A task force is sticking by its recommendation that most women don’t need mammogram tests in their 40s and should get one every two years starting at 50. The American Cancer Society’s long-standing position has been that women should get annual cancer-screening mammograms starting at age 40. Which guideline do you think should be followed, and why?

Welcome to socialized medicine. This is purely demonstrative of what we can expect at every turn. A nameless, faceless panel of "experts" (government accountants) will determine what you deserve, not your doctor. This is about spreading misery to everyone.

Yes, how's that hope and change working for you? You don't need these tests, oh no...and when you discover cancer, too late, there will be no appeal, no redress when the federal government controls your healthcare (as they're trying to control the rest of your life). The best thing we can hope for is they keep coming up with these blatantly obvious bad ideas and pushing them out before bothering to run them past someone who isn't a political hack. Then laugh when the administration backpedals hard the next morning. Way to go, Mr. President...play some more golf.

No one is saying you can't have a mamo a month-it is just that YOU will have to pay for them

Unfortunately, if we want to control medical costs we have to have some limits. If one mamo (you could substitute chest xray, colonoscopy, etc) each year starting at 40 is good, wouldn't one every year starting at 30 be better, or one twice each year starting at 20 be even better? Maybe yes, but it would bankrupt our medical insurers and make our premiums so high no one except the ultra-rich could afford tests.
The sad thing is that there are so many people out there without insurance or with such high deductibles that they can not afford to get any of these preventative tests done until it is to late.

The task force are people appointed by the gov't, who wants to takeover healthcare. It has nothing to do with the insurance companies. Get a clue people.

Actually, didn't all this come about in the Obamacare / Govt. run health care package? I'm pretty sure this is where it started, because this is one way Obama's pals are saying we can "Cut Back" on the two trillion $$$ this package is going to cost us.

Welcome to Obamacare and socialized medicine. The wealthy will be able to afford to buy private health insurance while the rest of us will forced on to government run healthcare and have to pay out of pocket for these essential life saving tests. Not one imaging specialist was on that task force that came out with these recommendations. Also some of the studies they reviewed were translated from a foreign languages into English. Please go to the American College of Radiology Website to read their stance on these recommendations. The ACR governs the guidelines by which all Mammography Centers currently adehere to. Men watch out your next with your Prostate exams and PSA's. These guidelines if accepted will be a step backyard and watch the death rates from breast cancer skyrocket.

This sounds insurance company generated. insurance rates go up and they cut back on what they will cover. Any preventitive measures should be covered as soon as a person feels they need to be checked. I know several women under 50 who have been diagnosed with a breast cancer but was caught early because of check ups. Thats my opinion and i'm sticking to it!!

This latests "recommendation" is just another excuse for insurance companies to refuse to pay for what may be a life saving test. For years we have been told that identifying breast cancer in its earliest stages is critical for survival - now ONE task force is going to take away a preventative test. Sure, we can still choose to have it done - but we will all be paying out of pocket for the privledge - outrageous!
